You'd do well to own and play either, but... I'd suggest UT99 for those who aren't likely to sink lots of time in learning the game as a skill. It's the better choice if you wanted to LAN with the boys or mess around with it for a handful of hours before shelving it again for a awhile. Q3A is the obvious choice for anyone who enjoyed the arena shooter genre and made a habit of playing it on the regular. The skill ceiling, and slowly reaching it, is ultimate reward for those who made Quake their main go-to game. P.s. Good analysis brother! Yeah it's a hot take no matter which game you choose as the winner. I'm a Quake guy, but you were right to spotlight how much better UT is aside of the movement mechanics (which are still quite fun tbf). Aesthetics, weapons, music, maps... UT knew how to stand out!

Actually I’ve been thinking about this for a while and I think I may have the perfect way to make a mega man that works seven in MegaMan legend of the network they reference the Greek gods and Atlantis so let’s have MegaMan battle network build on that essentially it’s version of MegaMan five on the game boy to we’re the steroids or star navies I guess were ancient AI that used to control every single cyber world for the solar system. They left when the powerful monster, chase them off the planet only to return after they discovered the destruction of the Trojan horse three years ago send to me legend of the network takes place before MegaMan battle that work 4 and MegaMan network 6 Takes Place three years after once they return, they start causing chaos throughout the entire solar system and are affecting the earth survival as we know it megaMan with the help of other navvies goes off to face and defeat them he still has lacrosse system from the last game, but thanks to his dad upgrading him. He now gets it from any enemy Navi he encounters along with a battle bond from friendly allies. He goes to all eight planets. First taking care of. Demeter(Terra) and Minerva(Artemis) since they’re the closest one then he goes to each planet, taking care of each pantheon of the gods before it’s revealed the monster that chased them off thousands of years ago was chaos, lord or as is true name and true form shall be revealed in this game typhon where he absorb the evil from every single one of MegaMan’s enemies all the way from the life virus two pieces of both cyber beast each one underneath him as I had well the main head would look like sigma from the X series or something close to it where after the feeding the AI gods one by one released him from the under net where he starts tearing apart all of time in space affecting all infinite timelines and higher dimensions learning about this from lan who still on earth or has been traveled with him? I’m not sure about that. Causing both to run back to earth in a panic. Only to be revealed he’s not on earth. He actually went to the sun where they defeated Apollo. or Helios. and turn the sun into a black hole. to destroy everything. He decides to stay in the solar system as he revives the AI as his agents. To protect. The solar system and the universe from evil. MegaMan and meet up with their friends one last time and say have going to miss these adventures with lan saying hey come on now you needing was this easy we just as long as you don’t touch nothing will take us down with mega man saying if you find words and they say one last time MegaMan jack in execute

I don't recall ever seeing a top/best NES list having SMB3 outside of top 3, so at #19 that is quite a bold take. These lists are always tough because even though they are subjective, personal opinions really skew the rankings. It's better to call the list 30 favorite NES games versus saying "best". For example, I don't care for traditional JRPG games, such as the Final Fantasy series, but if I was putting together a "best" SNES list, FF3 (or 6 depending on who you ask) would be a top 10 game listed, even though I played about 3 minutes total of it. It wouldn't make my "favorite" SNES list though. Long story short, you can't call this a "best" NES list and then go and rank arguably the BEST game of the 8 bit era at #19. It is widely regarded as one of the best games ever from any generation, let along the 19th best on its own console. I'm not even that big a fan of the game personally...if it was a "favorites" list it would probably just make my top 10...maybe even slightly outside of it. Best NES though?? it's Top 3 no debate.

Was thinking to have BN7 be the start of Patch's adventures with Megaman Junior(aka Quint to childhood friends)and have a Sigma Virus be based off junk data from Zero.exe. I would finally have Crashman.exe be a thing and some old Mavericks be rampant programs meant to be AI to help a pre-EM Wave Soulnet which also have the PETs slowly evolve into the Brother Bands we see in Starforce. Junior would be able to use the X Program/Anti-Virus based off of Zero and have him be upgraded to MegamanX.exe. The supporting cast and other kids would be a challenge on who to use. Dunno if I want to use more X characters or MM Legends characters as Net Navis or even Zero Characters like Ciel and Harpuia.

the whole term "Arena shooter" stems from >Quake 3 Arena<. Then comes to the sales, and illegally distributed copies Quake 3 outshines UT by many miles. tournaments, Unreal tournament '99 only went from 2000~2002 where as Quake 3 arena went from 1999~2022 with prize pools as big as $100,000+ that is 23 years of tournaments. You have to be delusional if you think UT'99 was the better game. this is not to hurt your feelings but this is the reality, everyone including myself from back in those years especially 99 flocked to Quake 3, yes i do own both games but Ut 99's movements and gameplay and bugs was just terrible while quake 3 felt like a well polished game. Don't believe me? Look it up yourself, as a fun task count up the amount of participants that signed up for the tournaments quake easily gets 100K+ people, UT under 1000 and this is World wide.

What a lovely list, apart from big names its lovely to see Hocus Pocus and Big Red. There should be Tyrian and Transport Tycoon Deluxe in there somewhere, but then again the list would be 1000 entries long.

it's always funny to see these sort of reviews dismiss Quake II as the OG Arena Shooter. It really defined the modern genre more than any game before it. Not to dismiss Doom, it was just not even close to what Quake II delivered.
